Redesign 2026

Just completed a redesign (moderate reskinning) of this website for the new year. Hard to believe the last design stuck around for five years.

I consider the site's mission in flux. In the past, I've used it as an example of my work. I considered a personal website table stakes when applying to be a web developer.

Of course, these days it's pretty clear that we are undergoing an industrial revolution of sorts, and the day-to-day Jira queue/workmanlike coding job is not long for this world.

Between the increasingly dubious need for a portfolio and my utter failure to reliably blog, I am pivoting the purpose of this site. My goal (stated, as yet unrealized) will be to make this domain not only a place where I can occasionally post, but also as an archive of my online life.

The 11.ty frameworks versatile ability to ingest all sorts of data into the post river is my friend here; I already integrate it with my Newsblur, Storygraph, and Tumblr, kind of. But in at least some of those cases, if the source data goes away, they'd disappear from the site. This will be my first goal.

Changes, code-wise: I've iterated a little on the aesthetics, removing the image from the home page and opting instead to use one of these Epson printer inspired fonts. Colors and typography have been updated slightly throughout, the home page CSS now lives in its own file, I trimmed some styles, and have leaned more heavily into custom properties. I've also further trimmed the whole bundle over the last few months (nearly image free, no client JS). Have to make room for all these fonts. Still plenty more to do.
